An overview of the 2010 and 2011 FLACS training courses can be found here.
FLACS-II (advanced) courses have recently been held in Bergen (December, 2011) and Seoul (February, 2012). These will be arranged in the future as well, and please feel free to contact us if these can be of interest. Customized courses are also available.

Trained to the correct level
It is important that the personnel performing FLACS simulations are trained to the correct level of competence and understanding of the capabilities of the code. GexCon also operates a user qualification scheme in order to assure the competence of the users. This is to ensure that the client requesting FLACS simulations can always be assured of the quality of the simulations.
Course content:
FLACS I is a 3/4-day course covering the basic use of the code and dispersion and explosion processes including the following topics:
- Introduction to gas explosions and FLACS
- Pre-processor CASD
- Definition of grid and calculation of porosities
- Validation of FLACS
- Definition of Scenario
- Post-processor Flowvis
- QA of scenarios and simulations
- Summary (Advanced options, blast waves in the far field, etc)
Several hands-on exercises are carried out during the course. It is also possible for participants to bring their own problems. The complete course agenda (4 day course) can be found here.
Location of training:
Courses are mainly held at all three of our offices in Norway, UK and USA, but are also offered at other locations. Specially tailored courses are available upon request.
Pricing:
Participation in FLACS training (for at least one person) advised by GexCon is mandatory for companies having FLACS license. In general, the course fees is €1.800 per person (4 days) for courses held in Bergen, Norway (50% discount for existing FLACS users and additional participants from the same company). The course fee includes:
* A one-month free trial license period (for first-time customers only)
* Support from GexCon during the trial period (only non-commercial use).
* Course notes and lunch (other subsistence expenses and travelling costs not included)
Cost for on-site training is typically €7.500 plus travelling and subsistence expenses.
Preparation:
You should be prepared to bring with you your own portable computer (Windows or Linux operating system). Earlier expericence using a CFD tool is not a prerequisite. Some background knowledge about dispersion/explosions and FLACS, e.g. from the Gas Explosion Handbook and other material found at http://www.gexcon.com, is beneficial, but not a prerequisite.
