Expert advice
GexCon may provide expert participation in accident investigations, projects or meetings where gas explosion safety is an issue. This may for instance take the form of workshops or inter-disciplinary brainstorming sessions in order to develop a design. GexCon has experience from explosion assessment of more than 100 platforms or process areas and can draw on a large database of previous designs.
Particularly in inter-disciplinary gatherings, the participation of an explosion specialist has proved to be very beneficial - both for the particular project as well as later projects. It is possible for the different disciplines to gather experience even in the form of rules of thumb through such meetings, an experience which can be applied over and over again, and which will save money in the long run.
The figure above illustrates two general principles for improved explosion safety:
- do not cover vent openings
- align equipment in the direction of an explosion
Experts can, e.g. in a concept phase, contribute to explosion risk reduction by sharing this and more specialised kinds of knowledge.
