Explosion modelling

GexCon R&D develops and implements models for turbulent flame propagation in the CFD codes FLACS and DESC.

Gas explosions in complex geometries

The CFD code FLACS has been particularly developed to simulate vapour cloud explosions (VCEs) in congested geometries. GexCon R&D has ongoing activities on turbulent combustion modelling and validation for improving the capabilities of FLACS for various types of gaseous fuels.

Dust explosions in complex geometries

The CFD code DESC is based on FLACS, but adapted for simulating industrial dust explosions in complex geometries. Dust Explosion Simulation Code (DESC) was a project sponsored by the European Commission under FP5.
