Helideck study
The objective of a helideck study is to ensure that the flight conditions are adequate and in compliance with relevant standards. This means assuring that vertical velocity , turbulence level and temperature gradients are within accseptable limits. A helideck study would typically involve the following tasks:
- Establish a realistic geometry model of the installation. This is important to be able to take into account the local wind flow patterns in the areas of interest.
- Run a set of FLACS ventilation simulations in order to asess vertical flow velocities and turbulence above and around the helideck.
- Run a few dispersion simulations with hot exhaust releases to assess possible temperature gradients above the helideck.
- Results from a helideck study typically include 2D or 3D graphical plots of flow fileds , vertical velocity components, turbulence levels, and temperature.
- Evaluate the results against any specified requirements or regulations.
