It is important that the personnel performing FLACS simulations are trained to the correct level of competence and understanding of the capabilities of the code. GexCon also runs a user qualification scheme in order to assure user competence. This is to ensure that the client requesting FLACS simulations can always depend upon the quality of the simulations.
FLACS I is a 4 day course covering basic use of the code and dispersion, explosion and fire processes including the following topics:
Introduction to gas explosions and FLACS
Definition of grid and calculation of porosities
Validation of FLACS
Definition of Scenario
QA of scenarios and simulations
Summary (Advanced options, blast waves in the far field, etc.)
Several hands-on exercises are carried out during the course. It is also possible for participants to bring their own problems. The complete course agenda (4-day course) can be found here.
Courses are mainly held at our offices in Norway, UK and USA . . . . , but are also offered at other locations. Specially tailored courses are available upon request.
Participation in FLACS-I training (for at least one person) advised by GexCon is mandatory for companies having FLACS license. In general, the course fees is €1.900 per person (4 days) for all public FLACS-I courses organized by GexCon (25% discount for additional participants from the same company at the same course). The course fee includes:
* A one-month free non-commercial trial license period (for first-time customers only and to be used within 3 months of course)
* Support from GexCon during the trial period (only non-commercial use).
* Course notes and lunch (other subsistence expenses and travelling costs not included)
You should be prepared to bring with you your own portable computer (Windows or Linux operating system). Earlier expericence using a CFD tool is not a prerequisite. Some background knowledge about dispersion/explosion/fire and FLACS, e.g. from the Gas Explosion Handbook and other material found at http://www.gexcon.com, is beneficial, but not a prerequisite.
After the course:
Each course participant is entitled to a 1 month free trial license if your company does not have a FLACS license from before.
