Testing and Equipment Certification at GexCon
At GexCon, all explosion testing and equipment testing, together with our experimental research is performed within the Laboratories Department at GexCon AS in Bergen.
Our testing facilities include a well equipped test laboratory at Fantoft and a large scale test site on the island of Sotra just outside Bergen, Norway.
At the Sotra test site, explosion tests can be carried out in various test vessels up to 50 m3. Testing within the laboratory is usually limited to standard tests and work performed in apparatus and vessels ranging from a few litres and up to approximately 2 m3.
Our laboratory testing includes a large number of standardised ignition and explosion tests for dusts, gases, vapours and mists as well as a number of purpose built test systems and test apparatus used as part of non-standardised testing and contract research within the field of explosion and combustion safety. Testing includes the investigation of ignition properties, flame propagation characteristics and explosion parameters for a significant range of flammable materials for both dusts, gases/vapours and mists.
We also possess several test rigs dedicated to equipment testing projects that are performed as part of the ATEX 94/9/EC equipment approval and certification services offered by GexCon. Within this capacity GexCon can assist manufacturers of equipment intended for use within potentially explosive atmospheres (Ex-equipment) with conformity analysis and igniton hazard assessments in relation to the requirements of the ATEX 94/9/EC directive for this type of equipment. We can help manufacturers with self-declaration of Category 2 & 3 Ex-equipment (for Ex-zone 1/21 & 2/22 respectively). ATEX certification of Category 1 equipment (for zone 0/20) is performed via our collaboration with DnV Certification.
We also provide "in-situ" testing services in which our testing staff perform testing and measurements at our clients premises if this is either necessary or is more practical depending on the type of testing and measurements required.
