Hazardous Area Classification
Hazardous area classification is a requirement of DSEAR and ATEX and involves assessing the probabilities of flammable atmospheres at a facility. Gexcon have significant experience across a wide range of industries and can carry out (or assist with carrying out) a hazardous area classification, or peer review a classification already conducted.
There are significant cost benefits to carrying out a suitable and sufficient hazardous area classification. While an insufficient classification can result in high risks, over classification of areas may reduce risks but at a cost not proportional to the gain. Blanket zoning areas is not always in the essence of the legislation and often has significant CAPEX and OPEX cost implications. Correct Hazardous Area Classification and zone reduction ultimately reduces risks significantly and provides a huge cost benefit.
Along with hazardous area classification, Gexcon can also give in depth advice on the engineering measures that can be implemented to reduce the extent of these areas.
