Being owned by the University of Bergen, one of our core objectives is to share knowledge with others.
Gexcon offers a wide range of courses in the field of gas, vapour, mist and dust explosions. We may also provide you with tailor-made courses (such as COMAH, Offshore Safety Case and various safety studies/risk assessment methodologies), seminars or visits to our large-scale explosion test site on request.
DSEAR & ATEX made easy (new ONLINE training course)
Gexcon have developed a cost effective, unique, interactive online training tool which allows employers and employees to improve their knowledge on a specialised subject, whilst ensuring that there is minimum disruption to the workplace and production. It gives the ‘students’ the power to complete this course at convenient times (i.e. can be stopped and started anytime) to work around their current commitments, test their understanding of the course content during the delivery of the modules and increase their Continuous Professional Development.
Broken down into 4 modules, it provides a complete introduction to the DSEAR regulations and offers a basic understanding of the phenomenon of explosions, its effect and the expected consequences, how to become DSEAR compliant and how to protect personnel and equipment.
At the end of the course, ‘students’ will be able to download a certificate of attendance and employers can have access to see which employees have (or not) completed the course.
ATEX/DSEAR Explosion Science Course (on behalf of the IChemE)
A unique training course for obtaining a full understanding of the phenomenon of explosions, including consequences, prevention techniques and current regulatory requirements for a safe and compliant working environment. The course covers gas and dust explosion theory, DSEAR and ATEX regulations, ignition theory, hazardous area classification, risk assessment and protection concepts.
The training will benefit those who are responsible for industrial premises that fall under the DSEAR (UK) / ATEX (EU) regulations, engineers who are responsible for designing new process plants and maintaining existing installations and OEM's who are required to design equipment and processes according to the ATEX directive.
Dispersion and Explosion Modelling Using CFD
Basic and Advanced courses are offered covering the use of the CFD code FLACS for modelling ventilation, dispersion and explosion processes. FLACS is the industry standard for CFD explosion modelling and one of the best validated tools for modeling flammable and toxic releases in the technical safety context.
Gas Explosion Hazards Training
Courses covering gas explosion hazards on offshore and onshore facilities are available. It addresses all aspects of hazards associated with vapour cloud explosions (VCEs): ignition processes, release and dispersion, explosion mechanisms, blast loads and modelling of all these aspects.
HAZOP / HAZID Training Workshops
An introduction to these hazard study techniques, these courses are run as a workshop style and are ideally suited to a new team wishing to adopt the HAZARD study series for a new project or a process modification / upgrade. Ensuring that the study is productive and efficient and preparing your team to facilitate further similar studies across your process portfolio / new projects
