Wind energy

GexCon R&D develops a special version of the CFD code FLACS for simulating wake losses wind farms.

Wind turbine modelling

Losses caused by wakes are key uncertainties when planning wind farms. Simulations with CFD represent state-of-the-art in the estimation of wake losses. A disc-actuator model based on the blade element momentum theory (BEMT) is implemented in FLACS to model the wind energy captured by the wind turbines. The objective is to utilize FLACS for optimisation of wind farm layouts.
