On October 22, Mr. Kjell Svellingen, Global Executive Vice President of Gexcon AS and Mr. Bin Xie, General Manager of Gexcon China, visited East China University of Science and Technology and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Prof. Liu Haifeng, Deputy Dean of ECUST (East China University of Science and Technology) Institute of Science Technology Development.
Prof. Liu first expressed his sincere welcome to Mr. Kjell Svellingen and introduced the basic information of ECUST. ECUST is the first university in China with chemical engineering as its main feature, and its chemical major currently ranks first in China. Over the years, ECUST has brought up a lot of high-level chemical experts for society. He also pointed out that the development of the chemical industry has shifted from the first stage of pursuing efficiency, the second stage of pursuing environmental protection and high efficiency, to the third stage of pursuing safety, environmental protection and high efficiency. Therefore, it is essential to cooperate with Gexcon AS which is a world-renowned company with strong strength in the safety field. He hopes that through cooperation, both parties can develop more safe process technologies, and provide more senior chemical talents with safety awareness and professional skills.
Dr. Franz Zdravistch delivered the keynote speech on the afternoon of Oct 19 with the title “Basics of Gas Explosion”. The main contents include the understanding of toxic flammable gas leakage, fire and explosion phenomena, the model used in the numerical calculation process, and the introduction of the fire explosion simulation software FLACS which have been applied in a large number of worldwide industrial analysis projects and verified by extensive practice verification over the past 30 years combining small, medium and large scale explosion experiments respectively.
Mr. Kjell Svellingen said that the cooperation between the two parties has further promoted the exchange of safety technology between China and Norway. Gexcon AS was founded in the 1970s, supported by the Norwegian Research Center, the Norwegian government and the University of Bergen, and focuses on safety risk management and complex leak, dispersion, explosion and fire simulation with wide international popularity and influence. Subsequently, Mr. Svellingen introduced the specific business and software products of Gexcon and presented the foundation and strength in full-scale explosion experiments, virtual simulation, and verification. He believes that both sides can strengthen cooperation in the field of green energy, especially in the safety field of hydrogen energy, seize new opportunities, and jointly meet new challenges in the future.
