Gexcon promotes knowledge on 2D and 3D modeling via a webinar hosted by PETROPERU

On December 14, Dr. Franz Zdravistch presented at “Dispersion, leaks, explosion and 2D and 3D modeling” webinar hosted by PETROPERU S.A. Over 200 people from Peru and neighboring countries people attended the webinar.

During his presentation, Dr. Franz Zdravistch covered the fundamental physical concepts of ventilation, gas leaks, dispersion, explosions and fires, and the differences between modeling these processes using 2D empirical tools and the 3D FLACS-CFD software

He also stressed on the importance of 3D modeling for installations where congestion and confinement are significant and delivered a live demonstration of FLACS-CFD software.

In addition, Mr. Miguel Navarro presented an overview of Gexcon’s history emphasizing its pioneering role in understanding the physics of gas explosions and developing the 3D FLACS-CFD software. Mr. Vinicius Simoes concluded the webinar by presenting simulation results performed with the 2D empirical tool FLACS-EFFECTS visualized on the Talara Refinery in Peru.

During the Q&A session, several topics were discussed, including strategies for selecting potential leak scenarios and FLACS-CFD software user-friendliness compared with other 3D CFD tools. Dr. Franz Zdravistch indicated: “I’m very pleased to participate in this webinar in order to convey Gexcon’s expertise and illustrate the capabilities of our software modeling tools to PETROPERU ”

Gexcon promueve el conocimiento sobre el modelaje en 2D y 3D a través de un seminario vía internet organizado por PETROPERU. Más de 200 personas en Perú y países vecinos asistieron al seminario.

El 14 de diciembre, el Dr. Franz Zdravistch presentó el seminario “Dispersión, fugas, explosión y modelado 2D y 3D” organizado por Petroperú S.A.

Durante su presentación, el Dr. Franz Zdravistch describió los conceptos físicos fundamentales de ventilación, fugas de gas, dispersión, explosiones e incendios, y las diferencias entre el modelaje de estos procesos utilizando herramientas empíricas de 2D y el software de 3D FLACS-CFD.

También destacó la importancia del modelaje en 3D para instalaciones donde la congestión y el confinamiento son importantes y realizó una demostración en vivo del software FLACS-CFD.

Además, el Sr. Miguel Navarro presentó una descripción de la historia de Gexcon enfatizando su papel pionero en la comprensión de la física de las explosiones de gas y el desarrollo del software 3D FLACS-CFD. El Sr. Vinicius Simoes concluyó el seminario presentando los resultados de simulaciones realizadas con la herramienta empírica 2D FLACS-EFFECTS visualizados en la Refinería Talara en Perú.

Durante la sesión de preguntas y respuestas, se discutieron varios temas, incluyendo estrategias para seleccionar escenarios de fugas potenciales y la facilidad de uso del software FLACS-CFD en comparación con otras herramientas de CFD.El Dr. Franz Zdravistch indicó: “Me complace ser parte de este seminario para proveer detalles sobre la experiencia de Gexcon e ilustrar las capacidades de nuestras herramientas de modelaje computacional a PETROPERU”
