DSEAR Compliance Analysis for a Car Manufacturing Facility | Case study

DSEAR Compliance Analysis – UK Car Manufacturing Facility

A leading UK car manufacturer required assistance with DSEAR compliance during the design and construction phase of a large engine testing facility.

By conducting a range of ventilation and dispersion modelling studies using our in-house computational fluid dynamics software tool, FLACS-CFD, Gexcon were able to determine whether a Zone 2 of Negligible Extent could be assigned within a test cell and provide feedback to the client on the design of the facility, prior to construction.

What you will learn

In this case study, you will learn:

  • How CFD can be used to model complex geometries especially where obstructions can create dead spots in ventilation domains
  • Performing dispersion and ventilation modelling studies can demonstrate risk to be as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP)
  • CFD modelling can highlight where risks can be reduced and help inform the design, resulting in a more economical and cost-effective solution
  • Providing support at the early stages of any project can highlight areas where risks may be reduced and help inform the design
