About the training course

Course duration: 1 day | Fee: KRW 1,000,000

In this course, you will learn how to simulate basic real-case scenarios with EFFECTS and perform advanced QRAs (Quantitative Risk Assessments) with RISKCURVES.

Prerequisites

The course is suitable for new and more experienced users who have not attended a formal training course or would like a refresher course.

  • You will use your own PC and license.
  • If you do not have a license, we will provide a temporary license for the training. Approximately two weeks before the training, we will issue the temporary license for participants.
  • The license will be soft-key protected and stand-alone.
  • It is recommended that a user with administration privileges installs the license.

What you will learn

The training will include the following items below:

EFFECTS

  • Why are safety assessments important and how to perform them?
  • How to ensure process safety? Introducing the concept of loss of containment scenarios and event tree diagrams
  • What is consequence modelling?
  • What is risk modelling?
  • Introduction to EFFECTS consequence modelling software & RISKCURVES risk modelling software
  • What can you use EFFECTS and RISKCURVES for
  • Practical demonstrations:
    • Making the most of the software’s user interface
    • Using Google Maps as a background map for your study
    • Exporting consequence modelling results in Google Earth
    • Georeferencing plot plans
    • Simulating polygon-shaped pool fires to model tank pit fires, rim fires, trench fires, tank top fires, etc.
    • Understanding chemical database and creating your own mixtures
    • Modelling to simulate plume rise considering inversion layer

RISKCURVES

  • What is risk?
  • What is risk assessment?
  • What is the importance of QRA?
  • The key steps in a QRA process
  • What are individual risk, societal risk, and consequence risk?
  • Practical demonstrations:
    • Setting up scenarios for stationary equipment locations vs transport equipment transports
    • Describing population distribution
    • Describing meteo(rological) distribution
    • Societal risk maps as a geographical representation of risk
    • How to interpret results via iso-risk contours, fN curve, consequence risk, etc.

Benefits

Attendees will gain the skill to utilize the comprehensive consequence modelling tool, EFFECTS, and its associated QRA tool, RISKCURVES.

These tools will assist in carrying out safety studies, including:

  • Process hazard analysis (HAZID, HAZOP, etc.)
  • Risk management (QRA, hazardous area classification, etc.)
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Facility design and safety measures optimisation
  • Consequence analysis

The results generated from the software will help in supporting data-driven decision-making.
