Shepherd Course

Shell Shepherd Course

Training Period: 2 days

Fee: USD 1,500

This course is an introduction into the theory and applications of the risk management software Shepherd v3. It will cover all the existing risk scenarios within the software, including toxic and flammable dispersion, fires, explosions, BLEVE, covering both individual and societal risks. This course combines both theory and practical exercises with Shepherd, therefore students will be required to practice and apply their new knowledge of the software through hands-on exercises.

The online course time will be instructional presentations on the use of the tool and the accompanying exercises should be completed outside of the scheduled course time. Time will be allowed during and after the presentations for Q&A on the exercises and the instructor will be available during the software evaluation period to answer questions.

  • Ensure good understanding of the features of Shepherd
  • Explain the workflow in using Shepherd.
  • Introduce various functionalities within Shepherd.
  • Ensure the attendees are able to use Shepherd to set up, run and extract results for a basic range of typical scenarios.

People who intend to carry out risk analysis with Shepherd or work closely with people performing simulations with Shepherd. These include risk engineers and consultants in risk consultancy companies, oil & gas and process industries, regulatory bodies and engineering companies.

This course is suitable for completely new users of Shepherd as well as existing users who would like to refresh their knowledge. In general, no special prerequisites are needed, but any prior knowledge in safety consequence modeling, process engineering and 2D modeling will be helpful.

  • Risk management (Quantitative Risk Assessment, facility siting for new buildings / process units, location of temporary accommodation during turnarounds etc.)
  • Regulatory compliance (COMAH / Seveso, ALARP demonstration, ATEX/ DSEAR, etc.)

Attendees will be able to use Shepherd for process safety related projects, which also means:

  • Development of new skill and knowledge
  • Development of competency to carry out various process safety related studies
  • Appreciation of the different variables which can affect process risk
  • Able to come up with recommendation on safety related studies
  • Able to practice risk planning and mitigation
