Shell FRED Software

Gexcon is an exclusive licensing partner of Shell

Shell FRED is a fire, release, explosion and dispersion consequence modelling tool developed by Shell and available exclusively through Gexcon.

Based on 40 years of scientific research and model development, it generates fast and reliable predictions with validation credentials unrivalled in the market.

As an owner-operator tool, it has been developed by engineers who understand first-hand the need for accurate results and actionable outputs. It answers the questions that operators need to design, develop and maintain safe operations.

The software is underpinned by an advanced thermodynamic model which enables extended multi-component fuel representation to be used in nearly all models.

Previously only available for use on Shell projects, it is known and trusted throughout the world and can be universally applied to facilities across a wide range of industries.

Shell FRED 2023 is now live!

Shell FRED 2023 replaces the software’s previous version (Shell FRED 2022). The latest version incorporates two new key enhancements to the interface and workflow, and improvements to dispersion modelling for liquid hydrogen releases.

Improved export/import function for scenario input

Shell FRED 2023 comes with the capability to handle bulk scenario creation or modification through the improved export/ import function for the scenario input feature. Users can now export an Excel template from Shell FRED to enter multiple scenario conditions, and then import it back to the software to do further calculations.

Integrated map for effective result presentation

Shell FRED 2023 features integrated geographic information to locate scenarios and their corresponding results directly with satellite imagery of the actual location. With just a few clicks, users can create an effective result presentation that can be easily understood even by non-technical professionals.

Additional benefits

Shell FRED 2023 also includes improvements to dispersion modelling for liquid hydrogen releases. To support the energy transition within the industry, the capability for modelling dispersion from liquid hydrogen releases has been improved.
