Pre-Operations Safety Report for LNG Storage Facility | Case study

Pre-Operations Safety Report for LNG Storage Facility

Gexcon were initially instructed to provide support with the client’s DSEAR compliance requirements during the final phase of development and installation of a new LNG storage facility. However, following issues with their COMAH submission it was clear that further assistance would be required.

A range of process safety services including CFD modelling was applied to review the facility design by considering a range of release scenarios including gas dispersion, jet fires and liquid pooling using our flagship consequence modelling tool, FLACS-CFD.

Gexcon assumed the role of managing all aspects of the client’s process safety requirements including the development of a revised COMAH Safety Report.

What you will learn

In this case study, you will learn:

  • CFD modelling provides strong support in both the predictive and technical aspects of the COMAH Safety Report, showing clear justification for the design of mitigation measures.
  • A thorough and systematic approach enables the identification of additional risk reduction, allowing changes to be implemented while minimising cost and disruption and ensuring the safety of the facility going into operation.
