Gexcon’s latest release, FLACS 24.1, marks a key advancement in the realms of geometry handling and fire safety simulation.

Building on the feedback from our user community and the latest technological innovations, this update introduces a suite of enhancements aimed at improving efficiency, accuracy, and user experience.

Geometry handling enhancements

  1. Introduction of “External Node”: An important step in geometry management, the “External Node” feature allows for a modular approach to building and managing complex models. This facilitates improved performance, a reusable geometry library, and a collaborative workflow, thus streamlining the modelling process.
  1. Flowvis visualisation: Enhancements in Flowvis offer an intuitive interface for managing and visualising geometry hierarchies, significantly improving the handling of complex models.
  1. Mesh object optimisation: FLACS 24.1 introduces new features for mesh optimisation, reducing complexity without compromising the accuracy needed for detailed simulations.
  1. Beta introduction of MDI features: With a focus on leveraging cutting-edge technology, the beta MDI features promise substantial performance boosts in rendering, particularly on compatible systems.

FLACS-Fire module updates

  1. Optimisation of combustion processes: Advanced algorithms for handling incomplete combustion and optimisations in EDC and Enthalpy Equations enhance the accuracy of fire behaviour predictions.
  1. Enhanced radiation mapping: Unified heat flux conventions, improved DTM settings, and more realistic radiation mapping contribute to a more precise assessment of thermal radiation impacts in fire scenarios.
  1. Improved pool fire solver model: Enhancements in substance specificity and coupled pool model performance lead to more accurate simulations of pool fires, crucial for safety assessments in scenarios involving flammable liquids.

Chris Coffey, Vice President of Products at Gexcon, said the latest software update offered significant benefits.

“The updates in FLACS 24.1 reflect Gexcon’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

“The enhancements in geometry handling not only address previous challenges but also introduce new capabilities that set a new standard in the industry.

“The technical advancements in the FLACS-Fire module ensure that our users have access to the most accurate and efficient tools for fire risk assessment and safety planning.

“As we move forward, Gexcon remains dedicated to evolving our solutions to meet the ever-changing needs of our users and the industries we serve.”
