Gexcon India team secured the 1st Place and Best Presentation Topic Award at the IX Environmental Protection & Energy Conference (EPAE) in December 2021

Gexcon is pleased to announce that our team members from Gexcon India, Govind K. Patil (Senior Research Scientist) and Prakash Dandawate (Senior Consultant), have secured the 1st place and Best Presentation Topic award among the 300+ international participants worldwide during the IX Environmental Protection & Energy Conference 2021 (EPAE) held at The Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland on 10th December 2021.

In this conference, the Gexcon India team presented a research paper based on FLACS-CFD Modelling entitled “3D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Numerical Simulation of Toxic Ammonia Gas Dispersion: The Influence of Atmospheric Wind Conditions and Leak Size“.

Analysis of the current study is helpful in the safe design of ammonia storage systems. The presented paper will be published in EPAE 2021 proceedings by the end of February 2022.

Presentation abstract

Numerous environmental issues are caused by the production, storage, handling, processing, and transportation of energies and hazardous chemicals in chemical and aligned industries. However, during the production to transportation process of hazardous materials, there is a possibility of accidental hazardous atmosphere formation in the surrounding area, which can harm the environment, humans, and assets.

Nowadays, the whole world is moving towards the hydrogen economy, and ammonia suits the best for hydrogen storage and transportation due to its properties and thermodynamics feasibility, but ammonia itself is hazardous in nature. Thousands of fatalities were reported to date over several number of ammonia gas leakages. Therefore, due to its frightening increment in numbers of industrial accidents and fatalities, it creates fear amongst society, making these industries as unpopular as unsafe. So, the prediction of hazardous chemical accidents consequence using 3D CFD analysis techniques help to fathom the accident consequence on the system and surrounding.

Therefore, in the current study, 3D CFD CA (FLACS) approach has been proposed for accidental leakage of toxic ammonia gas from storage shade with various models as a hypothetical case. Analysis of the current study can be helpful for theoretical and simulation basis for the industries to develop ammonia storage systems.

About the EPAE Conference

The EPAE Conference is dedicated to researchers, young scientists and students who would like to share their scientific experience, improve their presentation skills and broaden their horizons in the energy field. The conference aims to exchange scientific expertise in soil protection, air and water resources, waste utilization, renewable sources of energy, hydro energy, wind energy, biomass, geothermal energy, energy systems, energy efficiency, LCA, influence on the natural environment and dispersed power engineering.
