Gexcon to present and exhibit at JOIFF Industrial Emergency Services Management Conference 2023

Gexcon is pleased to announce that we will be exhibiting and presenting at the upcoming JOIFF Industrial Emergency Services Management Conference 2023, taking place on the 6th – 7th March 2023 in Rotterdam.

This event will see global subject matter experts from around the world presenting on the subjects that matter most to the Industrial Emergency Services Management Specialist. There will also be an afternoon dedicated to live operational and equipment demonstrations at the RelyOn Nutec Fire Academy.

Title: Why liquid hydrogen is not just like LNG. Understanding the particular risks of LH2

Abstract:

Hydrogen is considered by many as a potential clean fuel, when produced using renewable electricity. It could help reduce CO₂ emissions in “hard to abate” sectors like shipping and aviation. However, the low density of gaseous hydrogen makes the storage and transport of large amounts of H₂ impractical. Therefore, there has been an increased interest in the use of liquid hydrogen, in particular in the shipping and aviation industries. For example, the shipping industry is investigating the use of liquid hydrogen both as fuel for long-distance crossing and as a way of transporting hydrogen from producing countries, with an abundance of natural resources, to consuming countries, who need the energy.   Similarly, the aviation industry is looking at the use of liquid hydrogen for long-haul flights.  

The use of liquid hydrogen (LH₂) presents several safety challenges, from the materials used to the potential release of large amounts of LH₂ close to the public at passenger terminals or airports. This presentation will discuss the particular hazards associated with the use of liquid hydrogen and potential mitigation measures as well as highlight ongoing research in liquid hydrogen safety.
