Gexcon named as Hydrogen Awards Finalists!

Gexcon is a Hydrogen Awards finalist for our contributions towards safety training, developed and delivered in-house to raise awareness of the fire and explosion risks associated with hydrogen. The awards ceremony will be held on the 27th of February at the Hydrogen Summit, hosted by ERA.

We have been at the heart of the hydrogen revolution within the global energy transition and have made it our mission to reinforce the idea that robust safety training cannot be overstated. For hydrogen to take its place as a secure and responsible energy source we need to ensure that we are doing everything humanly possible to support its advancement. An accident could lead to a loss in public support and the retraction of a license to operate which in turn would lead to a huge delay in the introduction of new technologies.

Hydrogen comes with its unique challenges when it comes to the handling, storage, and use of its energy carrier. Another point is the speed at which hydrogen projects conclude, particularly those that are government-funded. The short time frame makes it difficult for process safety life cycles to be applied. This is where we come in.

A thorough understanding of the basics of hydrogen safety can help mitigate design flaws that could cause a catastrophic accident. Specialist training is therefore key to safeguarding our workforce, community, and environment from potential risks.

Partnering with the IChemE

We have successfully delivered this training to hundreds of delegates across the globe, utilising the IChemE as a training partner to deliver two hydrogen training courses focused on both beginner and advanced levels. We also provide free webinars on process safety topics that are available to all.

More information on the hydrogen training courses is provided below.

What Engineers Need to Know About Hydrogen Safety (Online Course)

Accredited by the IChemE and provides a fundamental understanding of the unique properties of hydrogen, setting it apart from more conventional flammable gases, such as natural gas. Participants gain heightened awareness of the diverse hazards associated with hydrogen and its carriers as well as the life cycle of process safety for hydrogen projects, from concept development to project execution. This course caters to anyone involved in or interested in hydrogen activities.

Advanced Process Safety Considerations for Hydrogen Projects (Online Course)

Also accredited by the IChemE but delves deeper into the subject matter and is tailored for process safety engineers, process engineers, HSE professionals, project engineers, plant managers, and other stakeholders engaged in the design, operation, modification, or maintenance of hydrogen handling equipment and processes. This comprehensive course provides an in-depth exploration of hydrogen, its hazards, and its unique properties. The course explains in detail the basics of explosion science, to help participants recognise where an explosion hazard might arise and how to mitigate it. Participants gain insights into real-life applications through several case studies from across the hydrogen value chain (production, storage, mobility applications) as well as the control and mitigation measures that can be applied to reduce risks across various hydrogen applications.

We have received positive feedback from both courses, see below:

‘’There was good current information (and recognition of the ongoing learning/development in the hydrogen area) so the course was very up to date. Good mix of theory and practical examples/case studies’’.

‘’ I have worked with hydrogen for many years and took this course to formalise some of my knowledge and I felt the content was excellent and very well done’’.

“The case studies and videos of experiments done by Gexcon. Enjoyed how there were key transferable lessons that could be taken for substances we do not deal with (NH3)”.

Furthermore, here at Gexcon we offer tailored, in-house hydrogen safety training to clients to address their specific requirements depending on the stage of engagement within the project. For more information on how to get involved, email GexconUK@Gexcon.com.
