To manage large volumes of FLACS-CFD simulations on-demand, we also offer FLACS-Cloud – a cost effective and scalable IT solution.

Choose from our range of solvers/modules according to the needs of your safety studies.

FLACS-Dispersion

FLACS-Dispersion allows the simulation of natural and forced ventilation as well as loss of containment through leaks and dispersion of dangerous substances.

Advanced modelling can help improve ventilation and dilution levels in enclosed and open areas and improve detection times from common leaks, as well as gaining insight into the expected dispersion upon accidental releases to the atmosphere.

FLACS-Dispersion models

  • Release of toxic ammonia gas from refrigeration units in the food industry
  • Simulation of pool evaporation and gas dispersion for an LNG release
  • Gas releases in oil and gas scenarios including effect of ventilation of cloud buildup

FLACS-GasEx

FLACS-GasEx allows the simulation of vapour cloud explosions. It is used extensively across industries to understand the consequences for risk assessment and design specifications.

Releases of dense gases present unique challenges and simple modelling tools may under or over predict the hazard ranges, potentially increasing the risk of exposure to hazardous gases and implementation of unsuitable risk reduction measures.

Due to its realistic and detailed near field geometry, FLACS-GasEx accurately simulates vapour cloud explosions including the effect of contributing and mitigating effects such as confinement and congestion.

FLACS-GasEx models

  • Verify structural integrity and design layout.
  • Identifying various scenarios contributing to an explosion in an accident investigation.
  • Modelling consequences of gas explosions at chemical production plants.
  • Analyses the behaviour of hydrogen-natural gas mixtures

FLACS-Fire

Our FLACS-Fire module features jet and pool fire modelling.

The tool is used to evaluate the risk associated with industrial fires and to provide input into design, such as passive fire protection.

FLACS-Fire is highly regarded due to its ease of use and integration into the wider fire and explosion assessment through other FLACS-CFD modules.

FLACS-Fire models:

  • Accurate and efficient transient modelling of combustion and heat radiation in complex geometries
  • Full 3D CFD and radiation ray-tracing model
  • High and low momentum flow jet-fires
  • Pool fires
  • Includes solid flame model for quick screening simulations

FLACS-Hydrogen

FLACS-Hydrogen is a valuable tool to evaluate the risk connected with the use of hydrogen as an energy carrier.

It enables the simulation of hydrogen dispersion and explosions to understand its combustion phenomena.

Gexcon has been involved extensively in large-scale experiments to understand the behaviour of hydrogen as a compressed gas and a cryogenic liquid hydrogen to validate FLACS-Hydrogen.

Gexcon is actively participating in global hydrogen safety research to ensure the safe use of hydrogen and understand its unique properties.

FLACS-Hydrogen models:

  • Flame propagation and pressure build-up due to hydrogen explosion
  • Propagation of blast waves
  • The release and subsequent dispersion of hydrogen

FLACS-Blast

FLACS-Blast simulates the propagation of blast waves arising from the detonation of condensed-phase explosives.

The tool, previously known as FLACS-Explo, is currently being used for security applications.

FLACS-Blast models:

  • Propagation of blast waves arising from the detonation of condensed-phase explosives
  • Modelling of TNT sources
  • Modelling of RDX sources

FLACS-DustEx

FLACS-DustEx is the only CFD tool available that allows the simulation of industrial dust explosions.

Our dust explosion modelling software is used by engineers designing facilities and optimising mitigating measures such as venting devices, suppression systems or explosion barriers.

It can be used for a wide range of particles from agricultural products to aluminium, bronze, coal, medicines, pesticides, rubber, wood and plastic.

FLACS-DustEx models:

  • Flame propagation and pressure build-up due to organic dust explosions.
  • Pressure-piling in interconnected vessel systems
  • Impact of mitigation measures e.g. explosion venting devices
  • External blast waves
  • Dust lifting by flow or shock waves and secondary explosions
  • Dispersion of dust in system

FLACS-Risk

FLACS-Risk allows efficient 3D CFD risk modelling and visualisation.

The tool provides an efficient interface to perform both risk-based and non-risk-based parametric studies.

FLACS-Risk models:

  • Parametric set up for ventilation, dispersion, fire and explosion modelling
  • 3D visualisation of risk to efficiently communicate and improve risk-owners’ understanding of safety issues
  • UKOAA ignition model for fire
  • OLF time dependent ignition model for explosions

FLACS-Cloud

FLACS-Cloud is a cost-effective IT solution to manage large volumes of simulations on-demand.

It offers scalable computer power at the touch of a button without having to invest in in-house facilities.

Simulations can be run through the high-performance computing (HPC) resource within the normal workflow patterns of the graphical user interfaces.

Scenario files are automatically uploaded and result files can be downloaded to your local system through secure data networks.
