About the presentation

Title: Experiments and simulations of large-scale hydrogen-nitrogen-air gas explosions

Gexcon presents the engineering and scientific aspects of the large-scale experiments on hydrogen-nitrogen-air mixture explosions, aimed at refining the FLACS software to ensure the delivery of dependable outcomes for applications in nuclear and hydrogen safety.

About the speakers

Nico Salaun (Gexcon)

Nico Salaun is a seasoned Principal Engineer at Gexcon in Norway, where he has contributed for 12 years in various capacities, including as a consultant. Currently, he leads a team of 10 consultants in Bergen. His professional journey includes a tenure as a safety consultant at Technip in Paris. Nico’s academic background is rooted in combustion and flame sciences and industrial safety. Since 2015, he has been collaborating closely with EDF, undertaking a broad array of tasks from risk analysis and advanced modelling studies to coordinating experimental campaigns.

Melodía Lucas Pérez (Gexcon)

Melodía Lucas Pérez is a Research Engineer at Gexcon, holding a Master’s in Process Safety from the University of Bergen. Since joining Gexcon in 2018, her focus has been on gas explosion modelling and validation using FLACS. In pursuit of further expertise, she embarked on an industrial PhD program in September 2020, sponsored by the Research Council of Norway and Gexcon to enhance the predictive accuracy of hydrogen and hydrogen blend explosions within FLACS.
